About us
NELLA is a the Michelin Bib Gourmand award winning Neapolitan concept from renowned pizzaiola Nella Grassano. You feel the love and passion she has for the cuisine of her birthplace Naples, Italy. The restaurant’s very soul is rooted in the love of tradition and family. Following a childhood spent cooking in her family’s Napoli-based restaurants and an apprenticeship in perfect pizza making, Nella became a pizzaiola – an expert in Neapolitan pizza. Nella left Napoli at the age of 27 to come to America and cook, bringing with her generations of her family’s beloved recipes.
Authentic
Nella is a Neapolitan Italian restaurant in every way. It’s not some American caricature of an Italian restaurant. Nella is the real deal.
Creating an authentic Neapolitan dining experience is our focus every day. We believe that our restaurant could stand up to any of the 15,000 pizzerias that call Naples home in Italy. We do everything we can to ensure that the experience that we’re bringing to life is exactly as it would be if our address were on The Rettifilo instead of in Hyde Park.

This is our go-to pizza and Italian place!! Amazing service and the patio is so great when the weather is nice. I hope they start supplying their non-dairy cheese again though for the pizzas, as Nella was the only Neapolitan pizza place in Chicago that I could eat at as a lactose intolerant person.
I ate here prior to Covid. But I will say that I had a great meal! Everybody was very kind and accommodating. The food was very delicious. The inside is casual & clean. They also have a gorgeous outside seating area!
Love Nella Pizza e Pasta! Delicious food, and amazing staff. Coming to Nella Pizza e Pasta for a meal feels like I am coming home for dinner! Highly recommend visiting! I ordered a Vesuvio on New Years Day for dinner and it was amazing! Best New Years Day meal!
This is one of my best go-to's as a UofC student. Fantastic woodfire pizza reminiscent of the best Florentine flavors. Try the Mozzarella di Bufala add-on to see bliss.
